Camden High School defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod was named South Carolina’s Mr. Football during halftime of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl, North vs. South, on Saturday in Myrtle Beach. Selected from among seven distinguished finalists, McLeod was recognized for his hard work both on and off the football field.

“I just know it is a great honor,” McLeod said Saturday. “Growing up in South Carolina—I know this award means a lot. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life.”

Presenting the Mr. Football trophy to McLeod was Bob Paulling, CEO of Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative, and Ivan Sanders, district two director for Black River Electric Cooperative.

McLeod is committed to play at the University of South Carolina. He is slated to play in the Under Armour All-American game.

The other finalists for the award included Clinton athlete Bryson James, South Florence quarterback LaNorris Sellers, Dutch Fork running back Jarvis Green, Lexington running back Jonah Norris, Barnwell running back Tyler Smith and Spartanburg quarterback Raheim Jeter.

McLeod is the 11th University of South Carolina commit to win the Mr. Football award since 1995. Four of the last five honorees attended the University of South Carolina.
