The Darlington County Realism Complex, Inc. presents an important Round Table/town hall meeting on Saturday, October 24 at 9 a.m. to officially begin the Action Plan of the “Intergenerational Empowerment Rural Survival Vision Extravaganza.” Keynote speaker will be Kerstin Byrd McDuffie, staff prosecuting attorney for the City of Florence.

McDuffie was born in Columbia, S.C. but raised in Darlington and Lamar. While living in Darlington, she was a member of the Cultural Realism Center (CRC). Time at the center gave Mrs. McDuffie the opportunity to escape the hardships she faced, and gave her a desire to be better than her surroundings. She graduated from Lamar High School in 2001 as a member of the track team, and went on to compete at Claflin University and Coastal Carolina University. As an undergraduate, she was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, Inc.

After teaching for a few years, McDuffie went on to pursue her aspirations to become an attorney and attended N.C. Central University School of Law, graduating in 2010. She and her husband have three children, and she volunteers at her church and in the community. Her message will be one of hope for the future for the children served by the CRC.

The 2005 Plan of Action developed by leaders and youth from across the Pee Dee and South Carolina is being taken off the shelf for progressive implementation to promote positive growth in rural Darlington County.

“The best is yet to be” is the goal for rural Darlington County with the utilization of all resources working together to make positive environmental changes for both adults and children. This round table/town hall meeting is designed for parents, educators, ministers, law enforcement, and elected officials. The time to speak is now.

Children cannot be isolated from the world. “Save the Children” is a priority of the meeting. Together, we are going to make a difference. For further information, call 843-393-9762 or 843-395-0431.
