Man arrested in Dollar General burglary

Early Wednesday morning, Darlington County Sheriff’s Deputies swiftly responded to the alarm of a burglary in progress at the Dollar General on North Marquis Highway in Hartsville. The incident occurred at approximately 12:57 a.m.
Deputies were already patrolling the area conducting routine property checks when they noticed the store’s front glass had been shattered. Upon entering the scene to investigate, they encountered a suspect, later identified as John Fields Jr., exiting the building.
Fields was immediately detained, and deputies recovered several stolen items taken from the store. Following the arrest, Fields was charged with second-degree burglary.
The Sheriff’s Office commended the deputies for their vigilance and quick response, which led to the apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of stolen property.
