Macedonia Life-Skills Center (MLSC) would like to thank The Lucas Family Foundation for a grant of $14,600.00 which helped fund its Reading and Writing (RAW) Program this past school term. During this program, students increased their reading and writing fluency and student’s attitudes and behaviors concerning the need for discipline within educational settings improved. The RAW Program, which began in September of last year and ends this month, was incorporated with other programs such as “WOW WEDNESDAY”, which is held every Wednesday, and “WE CAN BOYS”, which is held every Monday. These programs include life-skills, bible study, character education, job exploration & preparation, public speaking, music, arts & crafts, sports, leadership, bullying, child abuse, safety, health & wellness, and violence, alcohol, drug and pregnancy prevention.

In 2014, a total of 343 students were served by MLSC’s various programs, which includes the Summer Feeding and Enrichment Program. Because of the grant from The Lucas Family Foundation, MLSC was able to increase the number of students served and outsource transportation to Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority.

Macedonia Life-Skills Center, incorporated in 2001, is a 501c3, all-volunteer, non-profit organization that provides at-risk and disadvantaged young people, grades K-12, a supervised and safe place to engage in fun and creative learning activities that encourage positive behavior.

MLSC’s mission is to provide opportunities for youth to receive the necessary skills to become self-sufficient and productive at home, in school and in their community. MLSC’s goal is to help youth have a better life and a better community by changing their attitudes and behaviors. MLSC keeps children off the streets and out of trouble.
