Five members of the Pilot Club of Darlington were among hundreds of Pilot Club members from the US, Japan, Canada, The Bahamas, and South Africa who convened in Orlando, Florida, July 6 – 12 for the 2015 Pilot International Annual Convention and Leadership Conference at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Hotel. Each year, Pilots from around the globe gather for the event to participate in valuable leadership training seminars, informative workshops, and fundraising events for the Pilot International Founders Fund.

This year’s special convention guest speakers were, among several others, Ethan Zohn, the winner of CBS’s Survivor/Africa; motivational speaker Frances Papallardo; Rachel Arazashvili, Executive Director of the “Kidds Are First Organization”; and Jim Van Allan representing The Jon Gordon Companies. Van Allan spoke about Gordon’s inspiring, bestselling business book, The Energy Bus: 10 Rules to Fuel Your Life, Work, and Team with Positive Energy.

Now in its 94th year, Pilot International www.pilotinternational.org is a volunteer service organization with more than 7900 members in 385 clubs. Anchor Clubs for high school students, and Compass Clubs for students of higher education, comprise the youth organization of Pilot International. Pilot, Anchor, and Compass members champion the slogan “Do More. Care More. Be More” in their communities by providing services for those in need.

Pilots provide financial and hands-on support for numerous national and local initiatives in keeping with the organization’s “ABC’s”—Anchor Clubs (Youth Development & Leadership), Brain Safety & Fitness, and Caring for Families in Times of Need. In addition to its many community-based activities, Pilot International created the BrainMinders—family of Brain Safety initiatives for children and the “Pick Me Ups” initiative to honor family and community caregivers. Pilot International has established the second week in November as “International Care & Kindness Week.”
