A Darlington County man is facing serious charges following a road rage incident involving his uncle. On June 7, Justin Maurice Hunter allegedly rear-ended his uncle’s car on S. Warley Street. Hunter then drove past his uncle, making an obscene gesture. His uncle responded in kind before Hunter reportedly rear-ended his uncle’s car again, causing it to hit and overturn a city fire hydrant.
Police found the hydrant lodged under the car upon their arrival. After the second collision, Hunter allegedly cursed, threatened his uncle, and pulled out a gun before fleeing the scene. The victim, Hunter’s uncle, was taken to the hospital by his wife for back injuries from the crashes.
Authorities located Hunter’s car the next day at a residence on 2nd Avenue, and Hunter was taken into custody on June 9. He is charged with attempted murder and pointing and presenting a firearm. Hunter’s bond is set at $75,000, and he remains in custody at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.
