LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Reader warns of climate danger
Dear Editor,
Back in 1896 a scientist named Svante Arrhenius warned that if we keep putting CO2 into the atmosphere the planet will heat up. He was right, and that was 127 years ago!
According to both the United Nations World Meteorological Organization (WMO) & the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S), worldwide, July has been the hottest month on record.
And what we’re experiencing is only a small hint of how it’s going to be in the future if world leaders don’t start attacking the problem.
In his final book, Professor Stephen Hawking wrote that if humans don’t do something, the temperature on Earth could reach a Venus like 430-degrees! At even half that temperature this will be a dead planet.
Far too many world leaders and citizens aren’t taking climate change seriously. But as one climate scientist put it, “It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe in climate change, because Mother Nature doesn’t care what you believe!” And this quote of his is even more to the point, “Mother Nature bats last … and owns the stadium!”
We’re running out of time to fix our mistake!
