Lamar Silver Foxes beat C.A. Johnson by 50-44

The Lamar Silver Foxes picked up a 50-44 overtime win over C.A. Johnson in Columbia on Friday, October 23, to claim the Region 2-A title in varsity football. C.A. Johnson’s Cecilius Bailey scored on an 11-yard run with 3:51 remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point conversion was good. With 2:57 remaining in the same quarter, Isom Harris scored on a 1-yard run and the 2-point pass conversion was good. Lamar answered with a 2-yard run by Rashad Johnson for 6 points and a 2-point conversion by Johnson was good to cut the lead to 8 points, 16-8, after the first quarter of play. In the second quarter, each team placed 14 points on the scoreboard. With 6:27 remaining in the first half, Cecilius Bailey scored on a 14-yard run. The 2-point pass conversion attempt failed but C.A. Johnson was up 22-8 over the visiting Lamar Silver Foxes. Lamar managed to get on the scoreboard with a 7-yard run by Tyler McManus with 3:44 remaining in the half. The 2-point conversion failed. With 1:26 remaining in the first half, C. A. Johnson scored on a pass reception. With 1:07 remaining on the clock in the second quarter, Lamar’s Rashad Johnson hit pay dirt with a 9-yard run and a Tavaris Dolford 2-point rushing conversion. The Silver Foxes’ Tavaris Dolford had a 7-yard run into the end zone, and Rashad Johnson converted the 2-point run with 9:24 remaining in the third quarter. With 5:11 remaining in the same quarter, Tyler McManus scored from 4 yards out on a run play, and Rashad Johnson hit pay dirt with his 2-point run conversion. In the fourth quarter, C. A. Johnson converted 2 passing touchdowns for scores. With only 17 seconds remaining in the game, the Silver Foxes’ Tavaris Dolford scored from 1-yard out to tie the game at 44 points each. The go-ahead 2-point conversion attempt failed, and then the score was knotted . . . overtime! Lamar’s Rashad Johnson scored from 2 yards out to end the game with a close victory for the Silver Foxes. Lamar’s Tyler McManus completed 2 of 4 passes for 4 yards and also carried the football for 19 times for a total of 159 yards. Teammate Rashad Johnson rushed for 115 yards on 20 carries. Pat Anderson carried the pigskin 8 times for 73 yards. Lamar is 4-1 and 4-0 in Region 2-A. The Lamar Silver Foxes will hit the road on Friday, October 30, for a 7:30 p.m. game against Timmonsville.
