Lamar scores a victory over Lewisville 34-16

The Lamar Silver Foxes varsity football team picked up a 34-16 win over the visiting Lewisville Lions on Friday, Oct. 16, in Lamar. Lewisville’s #23 took the opening kickoff. The Lions got off to a slow start with a loss of 6 yards by the quarterback but he recovered the fumble. After being unable to move the ball, the Lions were forced to punt. On the opening drive on Lamar’s offense, Patrick Anderson became the workhorse, carrying the ball for 4 consecutive plays and gaining the necessary yards to move the chains. The Silver Foxes marched down the field but were halted by the Lions at the 1-yard line where they took possession of the pigskin. However, the Silver Foxes regained possession on the 4-yard line on a fumble recovery. Tyler McManus scored on a 4-yard run with 4:19 remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point conversion attempt failed. Lewisville’s #3 returned the kickoff to Lamar’s 46-yard to give the offense good field position. The Lions were forced to punt, and the Silver Foxes began on offense on their own 14-yard line. As the action progressed, it appeared that the defenses would rule the game as the Lions recovered a fumble and managed to carry the ball inside the 10-yard line before the Silver Foxes halted their threat for a touchdown. The Lions were forced to attempt a field goal that failed. Lamar’s Tavaris Dolford scampered 80 yards for a touchdown with 4:49 remaining in the first quarter. The 2-point conversion was good by Quan Toney. Lamar’s lead was 14-0 over the visitors. Lamar would again take possession of the football as Lewisville’s #3 would go up for a pass that would be intercepted by Al McFadden. With 2:47 remaining in the half, Rashad Johnson scored on an 8-yard run. He also converted the 2-point play to give Lamar a 22-0 lead over Lewisville. On the next series of plays, the Lions were forced to punt. Jaden Barnes’ punt placed Lamar on their own 26-yard line. Lamar’s offense could not move the ball and was forced to punt. Lewisville’s Jordan Brown blocked the punt and raced into the end zone with only 48 seconds remaining in the half for Lewisville’s first score of the game. The Lions’ #2 rushed for the 2 points. Lamar’s offense quickly responded and scored on a Tavaris Dolford 45-yard pass reception to give Lamar a 28-8 halftime lead. Neither team was able to move the ball during the third quarter. With 5:22 remaining in the fourth quarter, Lamar’s Quan Toney scored on a 2-yard run. With 5:01 remaining in the game, the Lions got on the scoreboard again with 6 points behind some great running by Deven McCrorey. The 2-point conversion was good. Lamar was up 34-16, which would be the final score of the game. Lamar is 3-1 for the season, and Lewisville is 1-2 for the season. Lamar’s Tyler McManus completed 5 of 12 passes for 79 yards and rushed for 45 yards on 4 carries. Tavaris Dolford rushed for 91 yards on 5 carries while Rashad Johnson had 52 yards on 7 rushes. Lamar will travel to C.A. Johnson on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m.
