Lady Falcons defeat Lady Red Foxes 3-2

The Darlington Lady falcons defeated the visiting Lady Red Foxes 3-2 in a nine-inning varsity softball match, Tuesday, May 11th, in Darlington for the Regional Champions. The visiting Red Foxes jumped ahead at the top of the first inning with one run. The lady Falcons went to bat at the bottom of the inning but were left without any points leaving the score 1-0 in favor of the lady Red Foxes. The second, third, fourth, and fifth innings were all quiet until the bottom of the sixth when Darlington landed their first run, bringing the game to a 1-1 tie into the 7th inning. The pressure was high as both teams battled to score before going into extra innings. However, neither scored in the seventh nor the eighth inning. Both teams were tied 1-1 at the top of the ninth inning. #5 from Hartsville bunted and was thrown out at first base. #25 hit a fly ball which scored Hartsville’s second run. At the bottom of the ninth, Whitney Turner was on second ready to run. Ka’Naya Jones hit sending Kansas Cassidy to the home plate for Darlington’s second run. Up next Caydon Thompson hit the ball that passed over center field for Alyssa Poston to score the Lady Falcons third and final run of the game. The Lady Falcons won the Regional Championship with the final score 3-2 over the Hartsville Red Foxes. Maddie Andrews pitched 9 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 error, and 10 outs. Alyssa Poston pitched 9 innings, 10 hits, 3 runs, and 2 errors. Darlington’s lead hitters were, Katelyn Church 3-4, 2 B, 1 RBI; Amber Rogers 2-4; Ashton Goodwin 1-4; Savannah Evans 1-3; Kansas Cassidy 2-2; and Ary McPhail 1-4, with 1 RBI. Hartsville’s lead hitters were Chelsea Ghoens 1-4; Caydon Thompson 1-3, with 1 RBI; and Jaysha McCullough 2-3. Go out and pull for your local student athletes!
