Lady Falcons are now Lower State Champions

The Darlington High School Varsity Softball team has won the AAAA Lower State Championship after defeating the Colleton County Cougars. The Lady Falcons were able to beat the Cougars after two games Monday, May 24, and Wednesday, May 26. In game one at Colleton County the Cougars were able to gain a run in the first inning followed up by Amber Rodgers for Darlington in the second inning. With the score tied 1-1, Colleton County scored another run in the 5th inning. With the game on the line down by one run in the 7th inning Alayna Williamson hit a ground ball to second allowing Emily Johnson and Ary McPhail to score for Darlington. Madie Andrews pitched the entire game throwing 4 strikeouts and only 1 walk. The Lady Falcons won the first game 3-2. In a sold-out Falcons stadium on Wednesday, Colleton County was able to get the lead with three runs in the third inning and another run in the fourth inning. That would be the end of the Cougars scoring for the game. Darlington would answer with five runs in the fifth inning by Katelyn Church, Brayli Weatherford, Ary McPhail, Naya Jones and Shaniya Jackson. The Lady Falcons also scored three more runs in the sixth inning by Shaniya Jackson, Kansas Cassidy and Ary McPhail. Those runs would bring the lead to four allowing Darlington to clinch the Lower State Championship with a final score of 8-4. Madie Andrew pitched all seven innings throwing 7 strikeouts and 1 walk. The Lady Falcons will advance to the state championship to play the upper state champion Lugoff-Elgin.
