Miss Pee Dee Teen Kinsley Odom
A year after being Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival Teen, Kinsley Odom recently accepted the title of Miss Pee Dee Teen which enables her to compete for the title of Miss South Carolina Teen 2017.
The Pee Dee area encompasses the counties of Darlington, Florence, Marlboro, Marion, Dillon and Williamsburg.
“I’m very excited that I’ve gotten to not only represent my home county, but also areas that also really mean a lot to me,” Odom said. “I will continue to strive to reach my goal of becoming Miss South Carolina Teen and Miss America’s Outstanding Teen.”
Two years ago Odom was Miss Hartsville Teen and this past year she was Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival Teen.
As Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival Teen, she was named a top 15 quarterfinalist at the 2016 Miss South Carolina Teen, and also won the Quality of Life Award (best platform and work done with it), the STEM scholarship, the Media Award (for most media coverage during her reign), was named the Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Maker (raised the most money of all teen contestants) and had the most community service hours among all teen contestants.
Odom’s platform is “Downright Perfect” promoting Down Syndrome Awareness and Acceptance. She dedicates her platform and the work she does to her brother Kayden who suffers from Trisomy 21.
“From the day Kayden was born my platform was created,” Odom said. “ I’m extremely excited that I’ll be able to continue my work with my platform and especially the work I’m trying to do with inclusion of all special needs individuals.”
Last year Odom also traveled to Nashville, TN as a nominee for the National Youth Activist awards sponsored by Omni Hotel and Resorts.
“My year as Miss S.C. Sweet Potato Festival Teen propelled me to be able to do the things I’m doing now,” Odom said. “It was such a great year, and I’m so excited that I’ll have another year to improve things and be an even stronger contestant this year.”
Odom is the 16 year old daughter of Tony and Cathy Odom of Florence, and a junior at West Florence High School where she is a member of the girls varsity golf team. You may also recognize her as the official TV spokesperson for Pee Dee Auto Sales.
