Jail officer is arrested for having contraband

A now-dismissed detention officer at the Darlington County jail has been arrested for allegedly bringing contraband – including marijuana, a cellphone and a pocket knife – into the jail.
Devonte Rashawn Harrell has been charged with misconduct in office and possession of marijuana as a result of an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office requested the probe.
The case is to be prosecuted by the 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
