Harvest Hope Food Bank in Florence recently received a $1,000 donation from the Indian Branch United Methodist Church in Darlington. Members from the Indian Branch UMC congregation presented the check to Harvest Hope Food Bank during the Helping Our People Eat (HOPE) dinner on September 15, 2015 in Florence.

“Isaiah 58:10 states that if you feed the hungry and help those in trouble, then your light will shine in darkness. Our church is committed to serving the Lord by helping Harvest Hope feed the hungry in our communities,” said Penny Watson, member of Indian Branch UMC and advisory board member of Harvest Hope Food Bank.

“One in five South Carolina citizens has missed a meal over the past year because they lacked resources to purchase food,” said Denise Holland, CEO of Harvest Hope Food Bank. “Harvest Hope could not meet the incredible hunger needs of our Pee Dee neighbors without the help of members of the faith-based community like Indian Branch United Methodist Church. Their donation will go a long way in serving the hungry in the Pee Dee.”

Harvest Hope’s Pee Dee location serves Chesterfield, Clarendon, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Lee, Marlboro and Marion counties. Working with 145 agency partners in the Pee Dee, Harvest Hope’s Florence facility has distributed more than 2.3 million meals to 233,716 families in fiscal year 2015.
