Hickman to lead Hartsville Middle School

Brian Hickman has been named principal of Hartsville Middle School, officials with the Darlington County School District announced Monday, June 15. Hickman is currently an assistant principal at the school. He takes over for Meredith Taylor, who will serve as the school district’s new Director of Teacher Quality.

“I have the highest regard for Mr. Hickman’s knowledge and abilities, “said Dr. Eddie Ingram, district superintendent. “Mr. Hickman possesses strong people skills and leadership ability, and has served Hartsville Middle School for several years as an assistant principal. I am confident he will do a fine job.”

Hickman began his education career at Brockington Elementary School in Darlington where he taught fifth grade math and science, and eventually served as the school’s Lead Mentor Teacher. During his first year teaching, he was selected as the Darlington County School District’s Outstanding First Year Teacher. In 2007 he moved to Hartsville Middle School as the school’s Exceptional Education Facilitator. There he oversaw all the exceptional education teachers and acted as administrator for all exceptional education students. In 2008 he was promoted to assistant principal.

Hickman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He earned a Master of Education in school administration from Cambridge College in 2008. Hickman is married and the proud father of two daughters.

“I am very excited about this opportunity,” said Hickman. “Hartsville Middle School has an amazing staff and students. Thanks to Mrs. Taylor’s leadership and dedication, our school has made great progress, and I look forward to working with everyone involved to continue the progress.”
