Heroes and villains invade Lamar
The Lamar Library was overrun with heroes on September 9 as it hosted its first ever Comic Con event, complete with prize giveaways, a cosplay contest, and special appearances from Batman and the South Carolina Ghostbusters. Lamar Library branch manager Michelle Wallace said that aside from being great fun for local children and library staff alike, the comic con provides a great way to encourage kids to read.
“With all of the movies and television shows now focused on superheroes, reading comics and graphic novels and books gives them another way to interact with the characters they like and learn more of their stories,” said Wallace.
Cosplay contest winners received $10 gift certificates to Legends Comics in Florence, and interacted with judges and guests to demonstrate their knowledge of their characters. First place honors went to Jada as Miraculous Ladybug, second place went to Jessica as Megara from Disney’s Hercules, and third place went to Shelby as Batgirl.
