Hartsville High School IB Programme receives results from five year evaluation

Hartsville High School was authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School in December 2007 and graduated its first class of IB students in 2010. Currently there are 189 students in grades 9 – 12 enrolled in the Hartsville High IB Magnet Programme. As part of the IB Diploma Programme, IB schools undergo a self-evaluation every five years. The purpose of this self-evaluation is to ensure that the integrity and standards of the IB Diploma Programme are maintained. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) analyzes and evaluates the self-evaluation, provides guidance, identifies matters to be addressed, makes recommendations, and commends schools on exceptional practices.
Hartsville High School recently received the Report on the Programme Evaluation from the International Baccalaureate Organization. The Programme Evaluation found that Hartsville High School showed satisfactory development in each of the five evaluated IB standards. The school received four commendations. Among the commendations cited by IB were increasing the number of students registered as Diploma Programme candidates, adequate funding from the Darlington County School District, increasing the number of IB subjects offered, and devoting additional resources to the Extended Essay component, including the appointment of an Extended Essay Coordinator. The IBO also noted that “The school has a high level of implementation. Several subjects produced results above the international mean in 2013 and 2014, which supports the school’s conclusion.”
Last year, Hartsville High School juniors and seniors achieved a pass rate of 81.11% on IB assessments. Twelve Hartsville High School seniors earned IB Diploma in 2014. Since 2010, 170 students have graduated from the IB Programme, including 30 students who earned the IB Diploma.
The Hartsville High School International Baccalaureate Magnet Programme is a merit based magnet program. Students who reside in Darlington County are eligible to apply for admission. Each year 50 rising freshmen are accepted into the Hartsville High School IB Magnet Programme.
