GSSM wins McBee’s 2021 Home Cross Country Meet

The S.C. Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics’ Boys and Girls cross country teams both won the first McBee Home Meet on Sept. 15. This is the second consecutive meet where both teams won first place. “The team this year is such a powerhouse,” said Judson Greene, head coach of the GSSM Cross Country team. “I’m proud to coach a group of such dedicated runners.” GSSM competed against Andrew Jackson, Brookland-Cayce, Buford, Cheraw, Chesterfield, Great Falls and McBee. The GSSM boys’ team consisted of Ethan Anderson, Payton Baggott, Lex Baker, Hayes Brewer, Sanjeev Chauhan, Joshua Fuqua, Logan Senkier, Dominique Smith and Nikolaos Xanthakos. The GSSM girls’ team consisted of Marilyn Bertok, Anna Byford, Emma Feith, Keegan Floyd, Guadalupe Frias, Isabelle Hipple and Elise Lanahan. In addition to the team win, Lanahan won first place in the girls’ race with a time of 21:23.
