GSSM wins awards at FBLA competition

Following weeks of virtual competitive events, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Conference held its awards ceremony March 27. The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science + Mathematics (GSSM) in Hartsville was recognized multiple times for outstanding performances. All 10 of GSSM’s FBLA students participated in state competitions, with seven earning first-place awards in five categories and two receiving third place awards. The participants and their awards are as follows: Ananya Hota of York County, 1st place in Personal Finance Minnie Liu of Greenville County, 1st place in Client Service Nathan Stolzenfeld of Spartanburg County, 1st place in Political Science Anavami Isa and Christian Ihekweazu of Orangeburg County, 1st place in 3D Animations Elic Weeks of Greenwood County and Shamitha Nandi of Sumter County, 1st place in Publication Design Faith Kent of Abbeville County, 3rd place in Agribusiness Winnie Zheng of Pickens County, 3rd place in Public Speaking “FBLA prepares high school students in business-related careers through events such as state competitions and conferences,” said chapter president Shamitha Nandi. “This year, we competed virtually and were able to secure wins due to the hard work and dedication each competitor put in their respective competitive events.” Nandi also serves as FBLA 2020-21 State Parliamentarian and her teammate, Ananya Hota, serves as State Vice President. Faith Kent was elected 2021-22 State Parliamentarian. In addition to its strong showing in FBLA state competition, GSSM’s FBLA hosted three interactive virtual sessions this year for all GSSM students and FBLA members from another high school where students interacted with GSSM alumni accomplished in business, medicine, and technology.
