Greg Rowles to emcee the 33rd Annual S.C. Sweet Potato Festival

The S.C. Sweet Potato Festival sponsored by the Pilot Club of Darlington announces this year’s emcee will be Greg Rowles, popular entertainer from Myrtle Beach.

“We are so excited to have Greg in Darlington this year!” said Ruth Flowers, long-time member of the Pilot Club. In addition to Rowles, a host of entertainers will be performing on the stage in the Public Square for the 33rd S.C. Sweet Potato Festival on October 10th.

“I’m looking forward to spending time in Darlington with so many friends for a day of great entertainment for all ages, and of course, some of the best food in the Palmetto.” said Rowles.

Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Greg has been an active musician since the age of twelve when he began playing in a band with his Mom, Dad, and Brother. An accomplished musician on various instruments Greg credits Ernest Tubb, Bill Monroe, Faron Young, Porter Wagoner and Conway Twitty as his musical heroes.

Greg is a former male vocalist of the year from “Star Search”. In fact the victory was the first in the show’s history that fans voted on their favorite performer. Eighteen million votes were cast and Ed McMahon announced that Greg had been chosen champion. Currently you can catch him hosting “FOX Midday News Live”, and “Not the News” daily as well as FOX Racin’ News”, and FOX Football News weekly on WFXB FOX 43 in Myrtle Beach. Greg was recently featured on Food Network’s, Paula’s Party with Paula Deen. Greg works closely with his corporate sponsors, Wrangler, Dean Markley Strings, Dean Markley Amplifiers, Steve Clayton Custom Picks, and Holt Custom Guitars. Greg is also the spokesman for Beach Automotive Group.

Greg has entertained at the Vatican in Rome, Italy for three years at the request of James Nicholson, the U.S. Ambassador to The Holy See, who also served President George W. Bush as Secretary of Veteran Affairs. Greg has also performed numerous times as a solo artist on the Grand Ole Opry. This marks his 37th year in show business and his 16th season here where he has been honored to be named as “Alabama Theatre’s Good Will Ambassador”. Greg gives of his time to a variety of charitable organizations throughout the year.Greg just released his brand new Christian CD, “Sing His Praise”.Look for it in the gift shop and on-line at iTunes, CD baby and Amazon.

Flowers shared that food and craft vendors have signed up from over seven states to attend this year’s event, which includes fun for all ages and delicious food including a variety of sweet potato delicacies and the Pilot Club’s famous funnel cakes. Flowers hinted that she has more surprises coming for the opening of the festival, details coming soon!
