Gehrke named principal of Darlington High School
The Darlington County Board of Education recently voted to appoint Cortney Gehrke principal of Darlington High School. Gerhke has served as interim principal since July.
“Mrs. Gehrke has done an excellent job over the years as a teacher, an administrator and recently as an interim principal,” said Dr. Bill Boyd, Darlington County School District (DCSD) acting superintendent. “She is a champion for students and her leadership will serve the school and community well.”
Gehrke began working for DCSD in 2005 as an English teacher at Lamar High School. She also taught and worked as an administrator at Spaulding Middle School and Hartsville Middle School. Prior to becoming interim principal, she served as lead assistant principal at DHS.
“I am so appreciative of the opportunity to serve my community as principal of Darlington High School, where our goal is to prepare all students for the 21st Century,” Gehrke said. “Our Early College Honors Program and the iAcademy offer our students unique educational paths, and with a variety of clubs, organizations and athletic programs, every student has an opportunity to be an engaged part of our Falcon family. With the help of the wonderful team at DHS, community support and our students’ work ethic, we will continue working to ensure all students graduate college- and career-ready.”
Gehrke holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the American College of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in English with Secondary Certification from the College of Charleston.
