Fuel up for holiday shopping with DDRA
Enjoy breakfast with the Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association before you head out holiday shopping as the DDRA holds a Kick-Off Breakfast for Small Business Saturday on November 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Darlington Country Club.
The event will encourage residents to #Shop Darlington during the post-Thanksgiving rush, distribute information about local businesses, and introduce the #ShopDarlington contest giving shoppers a chance to win one of three $100 gift cards for shopping locally between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The DDRA will provide the breakfast buffet cooked by the chefs at Darlington Country Club.
“It’s about more than just a free breakfast,” says Lisa Chalian-Rock, director of the DDRA. “It’s a way to share your favorite local places to shop, meet new friends, and learn more about our town. We will be handing out maps of local businesses and information on our annual #ShopDarlington promotion as well as menus, coupons, and flyers.”
Small Business Saturday is not new, but this is the DDRA’s first venture to capitalize and work directly under this national campaign.
American Express started the effort in 2010 to encourage people across the country to support small, local businesses, and the U.S. Senate officially recognized the day the following year. Small Business Saturday has been held the Saturday following Thanksgiving every year since.
More than 1,450 neighborhood groups have championed the effort, and the campaign has proven profitable for local businesses. In 2014, the campaign rallied people to spend $14.3 billion at small independent businesses during Small Business Saturday. Shoppers supported their neighborhood businesses like never before, continuing to embrace the day as a holiday shopping tradition.
If you plan to attend the breakfast, please RSVP to this event, email darlingtonplanner@gmail.com, or call 398-4000 x 103 by Nov. 19.
