DSS recognizes Hartsville YMCA’s Foster youth partnersh

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, the Darlington County Department of Social Services (DSS) recognized the Hartsville YMCA with a presentation in recognition for its continued support of children and youth in foster care.
By opening its facilities and welcoming our children, the Hartsville YMCA helps create opportunities for normalcy, connection, and joy. Partnerships like this remind young people that they are valued and supported by their community.
“Darlington has always been a strong and caring community, and I know firsthand how special it is because I am a Darlington native,” said Adrienne Wingate, Darlington County Director. “The love, support, and sense of belonging I have experienced throughout my life are truly meaningful. I want every child in foster care to feel that same encouragement and stability.”
Approximately 90 children and youth are currently in foster care in Darlington County, supported by roughly 11 foster families. There is a need for additional family-like homes so that children do not have to wait for a family, can remain in their home communities whenever possible, and can stay together with their siblings. More foster homes also mean that teens and youth with complex needs can be cared for in stable, supportive families.
