DHS Early College Graduate Spotlight: Matthew Williams
Matthew Williams is one of five Darlington High School Early College Honors Program students set to graduate with his Associate of Arts degree from Florence-Darlington Technical College.
When DHS unveiled its Associate of Arts Degree program for qualified Early College Honors Program students, Matthew decided to rise to the challenge and take advantage of this opportunity. While only a high school freshman, Matthew committed to spend the next three years, including one summer, devoted to a full college course load each semester in addition to his other high school classes. His hard work has paid off because with the successful completion of his spring courses, Matthew will walk during Florence-Darlington Technical College’s Spring commencement ceremony in May and then receive both his college degree and high school diploma during Darlington High School’s graduation ceremony on June 2nd.
Matthew is an active student at DHS where he participates in the National Honor Society and History Club. He also serves as Key Club Treasurer and Student Government Vice President. In addition to being involved in various school organizations, Matthew manages to work part-time and play the guitar in his church’s worship team. When not working or involved in school activities, he also enjoys playing the guitar and spending time with family and friends.
Matthew plans to attend Francis Marion University or USC and eventually own his own business. When thinking about the ECHP program at DHS, Matthew stated, “I believe that this program offers students the widest variety and most beneficial opportunities in the Pee Dee.” We are certainly glad that Matthew took advantage of this opportunity and its benefits, and we are proud of his success.
