Darlington County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a slaying Aug. 19 on Susan Drive that appears to be the county’s 6th homicide in six weeks.
The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to a residence around 6 p.m. and found that one person had been shot. The victim, identified by Coroner Todd Hardee as Jamaal Antwan Baker, 38, died at a local hospital.
The slaying marked what appears to be six homicides in Darlington County since the second week of July, including a double killing in which a Lee County man and his brother, a juvenile, were found shot in a car near Lamar.
Here’s an unofficial list of homicide cases reported in the county in the past six weeks or so:
— Over the weekend of July 11-12, Shaquan Brown was killed at a residence in the 3800 Block of Hartsville Highway.
— On July 18, Najah McDaniel, 32, was killed at a residence at 128 Pandys Drive in what was called a domestic dispute. A 56-year-old man who had “cohabitated” with the victim was charged.
— On July 30, Brian Jackson was shot on Silver Pine Road; he died the next day.
— On Aug. 3, Ka’Quan Hurley, 25, of Lee County, and his brother, who was not identified because he was a juvenile, were found shot dead in a car near Lamar, close to the Lee County line.
