DDRA Shop Small Downtown Open House

The Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association hosted a Shop Small Downtown Open House on Thursday, December 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the Public Square with music, photos with Santa, vendors, specials, and giveaways. DDRA partnered with the Darlington Recreation Department brought Santa Claus and a few elves, along with Dan E. Lockemy spinning Christmas songs and even had snow falling to get children and the young at heart in the holiday spirit.
The event encouraged residents to #ShopDarlington and introduced the annual #ShopDarlington contest giving shoppers a chance to win one of three $100 gift cards for shopping locally between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Several businesses donated prizes, and the first 200 attendees received a Shop Small tote bag filled with goodies from local shops.
“I’m always looking for new ways to support and promote our local shops, and this campaign had results that Darlington can’t ignore,” said Lisa Chalian-Rock, DDRA Executive Director and Planner of City of Darlington. “In 2013, we had a Shop Darlington Challenge on Facebook, which expanded into the #ShopDarlington contest last year. I want to keep Darlington moving forward, and the more we can get our local businesses in front of people the better,” she says.
