Darlington Window displays Race Week Spirit
The windows at 101 Pearl Street, in Darlington, are decorated for Race Week.
A new window display has rolled into 101 Pearl Street, giving downtown Darlington an early taste of Race Week excitement ahead of the big event at Darlington Raceway. The display celebrates NASCAR’s racing legends and the rich culture surrounding the sport, offering pedestrians a festive nod to the raceway’s storied history as they pass by.
The building itself is currently undergoing renovation and will soon house the offices of architect Steve Smith, AIA, along with Dyan Cohen, the Main Street liaison for Darlington’s downtown revitalization efforts. Even mid-rehab, the space is finding ways to engage the community.
Darlington Raceway officials said they were able to get their dear friend, Dot Stone, to put the window together. Officials remembered her diligent efforts at the track during the 1990s and said they “couldn’t think of anyone more creative” than Mrs. Stone.
Organizers aren’t stopping at racing. As the winter holidays approach, the racing-themed display will give way to a family-friendly showcase of model electric trains, offering a nostalgic, festive attraction for residents and visitors alike.
Together, the rotating displays reflect a fitting theme for the space: tracks, transit, and racing — three threads of movement woven into Darlington’s downtown story. Whether it’s stock cars thundering around the track or model trains looping through a miniature holiday scene, 101 Pearl is proving that even a building under construction can keep the community rolling.
