Despite being on holiday break, Darlington High School Falcon basketball was active on the court. Hosting the Falcon Holiday Classic, an annual two-day tournament created in 2017 by retired coach Ken Howle, the Falcons dominated the court. Last Tuesday night, the Lady Falcons made it to the championship game and took on Lakewood. Led by # 22 Sommer Joseph with 14 points, the Lady Falcons took a commanding lead at halftime. They continued to take advantage of each possession after the half. # 0 JaMera Madison scored 7 points in the 3rd quarter. The Lady Falcons would win the championship by 29 points; the final score was 59-30. On the boys’ side, making it to the championship to play the Cheraw Braves, the Falcons were a cohesive unit. The Falcons persevered, despite trailing at the end of the 1st quarter and # 2 Qualik Lewis getting injured in the 2nd quarter. Nine Falcons players scored points during the game; ball movement was the basis of their offense. Led by the Holiday Classic MVP # 35 Dominic Cotton with 21 points, the Falcons got the lead in the 2nd and stretched it until the end of the game. The last play was a dunk by Cotton to close out the tournament; the Falcons won 70-47.
