Darlington Raceway hosts 5K Under the Lights

The Darlington Raceway hosted its first 5K under the lights on Friday, Nov. 9, and scores of runners and walkers crowded the start / finish line to enjoy the rare experience of racing around a legendary NASCAR track on foot.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of the Pee Dee Area in memory of Sgt. Terrence Carraway. Prior to the start, Darlington Raceway president Kerry Tharp introduced Carraway’s family, and pointed out Sgt. Carraway’s City of Florence Police Department cruiser parked on the track as a reminder and a source of inspiration.
