Darlington Fire Department hosts Taste of Christmas

The Taste of Christmas draws over 1,000 people every year to enjoy delicious food and raise money for the Darlington Fire Department’s Annual Toy Drive.

The aroma of good local cooking, the sound of live music and the warmth of neighbors gathering filled First Baptist Church parking lot on Thursday, November 5, as the Darlington Fire Department hosted its annual Taste of Christmas, a cherished event that officially ushers in the holiday season for the city. This longtime tradition brings fire, police and community together to put presents under the tree for local children.
Held at the church at 216 S. Main St. and co-hosted by the Darlington Police Department, the evening drew residents from across the community for food, fellowship and a shared purpose: making sure children in need have gifts to open on Christmas morning.
Guests sampled culinary delicacies from churches, restaurants and vendors across Darlington County, turning the church into a showcase of local flavor. Music and conversation accompanied the tastings, giving attendees a chance to celebrate the season together.
The heart of the event is its mission. All proceeds go directly to the City of Darlington’s Annual Toy Drive, which purchases Christmas presents for children in need throughout the community.
The fundraiser routinely draws more than 1,000 attendees and raises thousands of dollars each year, helping support well a multitude of local children during the holidays.
“Darlington Fire and Police always look forward to the Taste of Christmas,” said Darlington Fire Chief Pat Cavanaugh. “This has been a long-standing tradition in Darlington. It’s a wonderful time for everyone to come together and celebrate the holiday season. The funding we raise will help purchase presents for children in the community during our annual Toy Drive.”
As firefighters, officers and deputies who serve the city year-round stood alongside neighbors and local vendors, the evening reflected the spirit of giving that organizers say defines Darlington’s holiday season.
With the Taste of Christmas complete, attention now turns to the Toy Drive, where the funds raised will be put to work bringing joy to children across the community.
