Darlington County Sheriff swears in five deputies
On March 20 Sheriff Tony Chavis swore in five Deputies at the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office. Three of the Deputies will be assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division, and two of the Deputies will be assigned to the Patrol Division.

The deputies sworn-in
• James Smith, a native of Darlington, just completed 12 and a half years of active duty service in the Marine Corps and is assigned to the Patrol Division.
• Dennis Sullivan, originally from Kershaw County, has 21 years of law enforcement experience and is assigned to the Patrol Division.
• David Brown, originally from Lake City, has 19 years of law enforcement experience and is assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
• Bobby Melton, originally from Chesterfield, has 17 years of law enforcement experience and is assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
• Freddie Davis, originally from Florence, has 25 years of law enforcement experience and is assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division.
