Darlington area shooting investigated by Sheriff’s Department
Darlington County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Mineral Springs Rd. in Darlington due to a suspect shooting into a residence. Patrol Deputies discovered the home had been struck several times, but no one was injured. The suspect fled before patrol deputies arrived. The suspect was involved in a physical altercation, retrieved a firearm from a vehicle, and discharged the firearm into the residence.
Patrol deputies located Starter Duke Byrd, 21, of Hartsville at an area hospital where he was receiving medical attention related to the physical altercation. Patrol deputies located a firearm inside the vehicle Byrd traveled in to the hospital. Deputies believe the incident to be isolated. Byrd is currently being at the W. Glenn
Campbell Detention Center awaiting arraignment.
