It’s almost time again to go dancing – Dancing With the Stars of Darlington County, that is. The annual charity event, which benefits the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault, held a reveal party on Wednesday, September 27 at the Beasley Farm and introduced this year’s crop of personalities and professionals who will boogie down, cut a rug, and bust a move for a great cause.

“We accept contributions all year long, but this is our one real fundraiser of the year,” said Pee Dee Coalition’s Darlington County board chair Pat Segars. “We’ve raised in four years over $225,000 for the Coalition. That is a county-wide effort and it has just been fantastic. We have a lot of fun with this event, but we are working for the cause.”

Segars said that the Darlington County’s DWTS contest usually has no trouble finding willing volunteers to don their dancing shoes, although many of them have little or no dance experience.

“We have choreographers that work with and help each couple, and they’ll practice their number from now until the event,” says Segars. “Some of them wind up having so much fun that they say they wish they had learned two dances.”

The roster for the January 25 event includes the following couples:
• Trish DeHond and Marlin Ketter, dancing the Rhumba to music from “Chicago,” choreographed by Tracee Auman
• Jeff Robinson and Ashley LeSage, dancing the Tango to music from “Cats,” choreographed by LeSage.
• Madge Zemp and Blade Boulware, dancing the Waltz, to music from “Beauty and the Beast,” choreographed by Heather Norment.
