County recreation agency cancels spring sports lineup

All Darlington County Parks, Recreation & Tourism spring sports for 2020 have been canceled because of COVID-19 concerns, the agency says.
“We have taken a long, hard look at the guidelines set forth by Gov. McMaster, the CDC and DHEC,” the agency said in a news release. “To bring our parents and children out into this environment and ensure them and our staff members safety is our biggest concern.
“We will err on the side of caution and do what we think is right and cancel the season.”
The agency said it is planning some summer activities and fall activities for 2020. More information will be made available on those.
Refunds on fees already paid for various sports “will be processed as quickly as we possibly can,” the agency said.
All fields under Darlington County Parks, Recreation & Tourism will be open for individual workouts on a first-come, first-served basis. Ballfields were to open June 1.
“We ask that you practice social distancing always,” the agency said.
Any teams that use the facilities will be subject to all CDC and DHEC guidelines. Teams that schedule practices will assume all liability concerning their teams and will produce lists of people present at every practice.
