Colonial Day at Brockington Elementary Magnet School
Brockington Elementary Magnet School held a Colonial Day on Nov. 27. During the fun-filled morning, students learned how to make candles, homemade butter and pin point Christmas ornaments. They also learned about the United States Constitution and tried their hand at using a quill pen to write their name.
Principal Stephanie Bridges said that the staff wanted to give students an idea of what it was like living during the Colonial Period.
“We are teaching students to bridge the gap from what is historically taught as Thanksgiving, giving them an understanding of why we do some of the things that we do,” Bridges said. “I think sometimes children don’t understand the historical significance of Thanksgiving.”
