Coker’s Davis scores 1,000th career point

WINGATE, N.C. — Coker University senior Emily Davis scored her 1,000th career point as Coker women’s basketball fell to Wingate Jan. 13 in South Atlantic Conference action by a score of 66-54. Davis got the Cobras on the board for her 1,000th point to start things off, before the Cobras would jump out to a 7-0 lead through the first minute and a half, before the Bulldogs would storm back over the next few minutes to go ahead 12-11 at the halfway point of the quarter. The teams would score five points apiece in the remainder of the frame as Wingate led 17-16 after 10 minutes. Davis notched her 1,000th point in her second season at Coker after one season at Shaw University (2017-18) and one season at Wake Technical Community College (2018-19). The Bulldogs controlled the second quarter, holding the Cobras to five points in the frame. Wingate took a 31-21 lead to the half. Wingate would extend its lead further in the early stages of the third quarter, before the Cobras would catch fire from downtown and get back within three with three minutes to play in the frame. The Bulldogs would get back into rhythm in the last two minutes of the quarter, taking a 51-42 lead to the fourth. The Bulldogs would regain their double-digit lead early in the fourth, and would hold it until the final horn. Raya Coley led the Cobras with 14 points in the game, while seven other Cobras scored in the game. Richardson led the Cobras with six rebounds, while seven other Cobras were active on the glass in the contest. Abigail Keesling and Ahlea Myers each dished out a team-high four assists in the game, while Richardson and Davis each helped on one Cobra bucket. Davis and Myers each recorded two steals in the game, while four others each had one steal. Valicia Demeritte posted the lone rejection in the game for the Cobras.
