Coker women’s basketball team gets season’s first win

The Coker University women’s basketball team picked up the first win of the 2020-21 season on Thursday, Dec. 10, by a score of 66-62 over Queens (N.C.). Coker found themselves down 9-2 in the early moments of the game. The Cobras came alive and fought back to within 2 points. Soon the teams were knotted at 13. In the second quarter, Coker’s Abigail Keesling connected for a three-pointer to tie the game at 16-16. By halftime, Queens held a slim 30-28 lead. Queens added to the lead in the third quarter before Ashauntee Nelson sank 2 free throws and a 2-point basket from Joyner to close the gap to 2 points. By the end of the third period Queens was up 45-42. Coker took the lead early in the fourth quarter and managed to hang onto the lead for the win.
