Coker men’s basketball team loses to Wingate
The Coker University men’s basketball team fell to Wingate in South Atlantic Conference action Jan. 27 by a score of 76-61. Wingate jumped out to a 12-4 lead through the first four and a half minutes, before the Cobras would storm back and take a 13-12 lead at the 11-minute mark. After the Cobras would sprint out to a six-point lead over the next two minutes, the Bulldogs would eventually control the minutes to come in the first half as they took a 25-23 lead with six minutes to play in the half. Wingate would eventually take a 33-27 lead to the half. Wingate would control the majority of the second half, building a double-digit lead five minutes into the period. After Coker cut into the deficit, Wingate would regain its double-digit lead for good around the 11-minute mark of the second half. The Cobras shot 42.3 percent (22-52) in the contest, with eight three-pointers on the day. Seth Bennett paced the Cobras with a career-high 14 points on four three-pointers, while Anderson Keller added 11 points in the game. Seven other Cobras scored in the game. Chandler Lindsey paced the Cobras with six rebounds on the day, while nine other Cobras were active on the glass. Lindsey also dished out a team-high four assists in the game, while six other Cobras helped on Coker buckets. Jordan Jones led the Cobras with two steals, while three others each registered one steal in the game. Malcolm Kennedy posted the lone rejection in the game for the Cobras.
