Coker defeats Carson-Newman

The Coker University men’s basketball team beat the Carson-Newman Eagles 67-53 on Saturday, Nov. 21, in the opener for the 2020-2021 season. This is the first win over Carson-Newman since January of 2015. Altough both teams got off to a slow start, Coker was up 12-6 at midway of the first half. Coker continued to increase the lead to 23-12 with only 5 minutes remaining in the first half. The Cobras defense tightened up and held Carson-Newman to one of the lowest scoring first half ever leading 35-19 at halftime. Coker held a double-point lead the remainder of the game. Coker shot 44.2 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free throw line. The Cobras connected for five 3-point baskets in the game. Dakota Jennings led Coker with 17 points followed by Chandler Lindsey with 12 points and Malcolm Kennedy with 10 points. Five other Coker players scored in the win. Dakota Jennings and Anderson Keller each had 7 rebounds. Anderson Keller also led in the assist column with 5. At this time Coker University will not allow fans to the basketball games.
