On Saturday, September 10, 2016, the 1954 Class of St. John’s High School met at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Darlington to celebrate their 62nd Anniversary and 80th Birthdays.
The themes for the night were “Happy 80th Birthday” and “Friends Forever.” The Hall was beautifully decorated for the class and in honor of a classmate, Bobby Weatherford Langston, who was sick and unable to attend. We missed others who were not there, too.
Everyone enjoyed hugging, kissing and greeting one another before the program began.
Ellen Truluck Register welcomed everyone. Dr. Charles Ham gave the Invocation, and the group was invited to enjoy their subs, chips, drinks and birthday cakes – three cakes for the “Class of 1954” and “Happy 80th Birthday.”
After eating and telling about themselves, the “Memorial Service” was shared by Ellen Truluck Register and Peggy Weinburg Ruthven. Red roses were added to the Cross for the five classmates who passed away since the last reunion.
Jackie Privette Pope played the piano and the group sang “The Alma Mater,” hymns, and music that was popular during our high school years. Everyone called it a wonderful get-together, and reluctantly said, “See you later.”
Those in attendance were:
Ellen Truluck Register, Peggy Weinburg Ruthven, Donald Ruthven, Jimmy Blackmon, Ruth Dudley Iseman, Elsie Strictland Johnson, Amelia Kelly Smith, Janice Newsome Flowers, Frances Hayes Jones, Jackie Privette Pope, Jim Kelly, Richard Howard, Falby Byrd Moore, Emily Lewis Morris, Peggy Jolly Purvis, Charles Ham, Alvious Adams, Ted Sessoms, R.
