Church of the Week: St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church
On August 1, 1900, The Rev. Albert Sidney Thomas took charge of St. Matthew’s. Thomas was a much-respected priest, and was known in the Episcopal circles as a preacher who moved congregations forward and challenged them to improve their buildings. The timing was right for the growth of St. Matthew’s as the town of Darlington experienced tremendous growth in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Plans were immediately set in motion to build a new edifice for the Episcopal community in Darlington.

Sgt. Knapp, son of Darlington residents, denied Marine re-enlistment for tattoos
Sgt. Daniel Knapp is an exemplary Marine and is being denied a re-enlistment opportunity due to having one too many tattoos. Knapp is the son of George and Andrea Knapp of Darlington, S.C. After serving his country bravely for six years with an otherwise top notch record, Sgt Knapp’s life long dream of being a career Marine will be ended if this policy is not changed.
Silver Fox Tournament of Champions 2015
The Lamar Civitan Club hosted its annual Silver Fox Tournament of Champions at Governor’s Run Golf Club in Lamar April 30 – May 1. The two-day event features a poolside reception held on Thursday evening, and a Captain’s Choice golf tournament the following day.
