Silver Fox Tournament of Champions 2015
The Lamar Civitan Club hosted its annual Silver Fox Tournament of Champions at Governor’s Run Golf Club in Lamar April 30 – May 1. The two-day event features a poolside reception held on Thursday evening, and a Captain’s Choice golf tournament the following day.
Each year, the Civitans choose citizens who show outstanding contributions to the community to honor during the reception. This year’s honorees are two former Lamar High School graduates: Rick Beasley, president and CEO of Carolina Bank, and Warren Jeffords, president and CEO of Jeffords Insurance Agency. Jeffords is also a long time member of the Darlington County School District Board of Education.
Beasley graduated from Lamar in 1970, and Jeffords graduated a year earlier. Both men excelled academically and athletically at Lamar and were teammates.
Beasley graduated from Clemson University and completed graduate studies in finance as Louisiana State University. After graduating from high school, Jeffords played four years of basketball on scholarship at Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina.
Jim Newsome, chairman of the golf tournament organizing committee, introduced the men and recalled their many achievements in sports and as successful businessmen as adults. “They continually give back to the community,” said Newsome. “We are so proud of these two men.”
“This is our major fundraiser for the year,” said Civitan president Leo Windham. “Over the past 15 years, we are proud to say that we have presented thousands and thousands of dollars in scholarships to well-deserving Lamar students. This event is a culmination each year of a lot of hard work by a lot of good people and brings together the best of Lamar.“
