On Sunday, October 30th in Hartsville, SC District 62 Representative Robert Q. Williams presented a Resolution to Ms. Rosa Briggs Carraway for her 97th birthday. Rosa was born in Manning, SC, on October 24, 1925, and later moved to Hartsville with her mother. Hartsville was her home for over 70 years. Rosa is a life member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Hartsville, and she is presently the Mother of the Church. Before her health began to fail, she was a very active member, serving on the Usher Board, The Gospel Choir and The Carraway Singers. She was married to the late Eddie Carraway and they had 6 children, four of which are deceased. Her family and friends describe her as “a hardworking woman, picking cotton, cropping tobacco, milking cows, raising pigs and chickens–whatever needed to be done on a farm.” Before retiring, she worked for Joe and Penn Lawton of The Hartsville Oil Mill for over 30 years. She also worked for Tim and Penn Anthony. Her family calls her “our praying grandma, she loves to pray and love the Lord Almighty God.” PICTURED ABOVE (Left to right): Rep.
