Brockington Elementary Junior Beta Club members bring home accolades from State Championship

National Junior Beta members from Brockington Elementary Magnet School (BEMS) are celebrating their participation and competition victories in the South Carolina Elementary Beta State Convention. The Junior Beta Club at BEMS boasts 42 members in grades fourth and fifth, 27 of whom were inducted into the organization this school year. 

The National Beta State Convention allows students the opportunity to compete in various academic and STEM-based, virtual, and performing arts competitions. BEMS sent 37 members to the state convention hosted at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Those students earned recognition as winners in 12 categories of competition: Apparel Design, Painting, Living Literature, Speech, Ensemble, Technology, Jewelry Making, Pottery, Digital Art, Drawing, Anime Drawing, and Mixed Media. The BEMS victories at the state level provide an opportunity to compete at the national level. The National Convention will be held at Louisville’s Kentucky International Convention Center this summer. 

The Brockington Elementary winners are:

Kyotoni Helgenburger – 5th place, Apparel Design Elementary

Gabrielle Smith – 2nd place, Digital Art Elementary 

Liam Torres-Garcia – 3rd place, Drawing Elementary

Nicole Annabel Smothers – 2nd place, Hand Drawn Anime Elementary

Lanae Mcravin – 1st place, Jewelry Elementary

BEMS Living Literature Team – 4th place, Living Literature Elementary

Shariyah Hicks – 5th place, Mixed Media Elementary

Rily Moore – 1st place, Painting Elementary

BEMS Performing Arts Small Group – 5th place, Performing Arts Elementary Small Group

Keyasia Green -5th place, Pottery Elementary

Elijah Jackson – 3rd place, Speech Elementary

BEMS Technology Team – 2nd place, Technology Elementary

National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service, and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. National Junior Beta includes grades 4-8, and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12.
