Bethea Baptist Retirement Community opens Aquatic Center

Bethea Complete PoolBethea residents do aqua therapy

On Friday, May 1, Bethea Baptist Retirement Community opened their new Aquatic Center with a dedication service in the Sidney Sutton Chapel. Built with funds raised by residents, staff, and friends of Bethea, this year-round, state of the art, indoor pool & spa will be the first retirement community Aquatic Center in the Pee Dee area!

According to Bethea Executive Director, Ben Spurling, he and many of his residents had a vision about this new addition to Bethea’s campus for many years before it became a reality. Spurling shared at the dedication service “We received our first generous donation August 2013, more donations followed, in April 2014 we had our groundbreaking, and this morning we had our first water therapy class!”

This new aquatic center will not only benefit the residents of Bethea, it will also be available to the surrounding community by providing inpatient and outpatient aquatic therapy and water aerobic classes. Spurling says “This new Aquatic Center was never meant to be exclusive, rather inclusive for seniors throughout the Pee Dee.”

Additional ribbon cutting events for local Chambers of Commerce and a community wide cookout and Aquatic Center tour are planned for May.
