Applications being accepted for DCSD summer program

The Darlington County School District is now accepting applications for ArtSummer 2017. The deadline to apply is March 24. ArtSummer will run from June 5 through June 22.

ArtSummer is a three-week course designed to provide recognition, encouragement, and enrichment for talented actors, media artists, vocal or instrumental musicians, dancers, and visual artists. This intensive and individualized course of study in the arts will allow the young artist to improve skills, learn new techniques, develop new ideas and prepare for an arts-related vocation or avocation. Students will also be exposed to and participate in activities in multiple arts disciplines.

Eligibility is based on the following:
1. The student and his/her parents must be legal residents of Darlington County.
2. The student must be in the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, or tenth grade at the time of application and must be enrolled in a Darlington County public school.
3. The student must demonstrate talent, achievement, and/or potential in the arts. Although selection is not based on academic achievement, a transcript is required to establish the learning, commitment, and achievement patterns of the students applying.

Selection Process:
The selection process consists of two steps.
1. Submission of application, teacher recommendation, registration fee of $40.00 and transcript.
2. An interview and an audition or a presentation of a portfolio before a panel of arts teachers, district staff, or practicing artists.
