City Council, do you really want to invest in our kids?

Darlington has created a new playground area on Hampton Street; I saw pictures on Facebook.

The caption read, “The Hampton Street Playground in Darlington is open for business! Thank you, Darlington City Council, for investing in our kids.”

Eye roll No. 1.

Then a person posted a comment saying she took her children to the playground and she had some suggestions — great suggestions, actually — about picnic tables and sheltered places parents could sit and watch their kids play. The response was picnic tables/shelters are in the plans for all the parks.

Eye roll No. 2.

If Darlington City Council wants a pat on the back for a job well done, then give us something to congratulate you on, not something brand new that already needs improvements.

If you are going to do a job, then do it all the way.

The playground is great — don’t get me wrong, any infrastructure to improve the quality of life in Darlington is amazing — but why can’t we go all in for every project? The people of Darlington deserve more, not just a few scraps thrown at them every other quarter.

Hey, Darlington City Council, do you really want to invest in our kids?

Take development of downtown and the Bypass more seriously. Build the city up so we can not only hold onto the businesses we have but attract more.

Give the kids a place to live, grow and thrive, because right now the only option is to leave Darlington and thrive somewhere else.
