Winners in rain-plagued races

Rain plagued the rest of NASCAR’s race schedule last week at Darlington Raceway, as NASCAR returned from a two-month hiatus resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. On Tuesday, May 19, an Xfinity Series race got rained out and rescheduled. On Wednesday, May 20, a Cup Series race also had rain problems, and was stopped with 20 laps remaining. Denny Hamlin (right) claimed victory in that race — NASCAR’s first Wednesday race since 1984. On Thursday, May 21, NASCAR tried again with the Xfinity Series, only to again run into rain delays. Chase Briscoe (upper left) won that race. No fans were allowed at the track for these races because of COVID-19 concerns, and “essential” personnel at the track had to observe very tight virus-safety precautions.
