William “Fudgie” Blackmon

DARLINGTON – William “Fudgie” Barry Blackmon, age 78, died Thursday, July 15, 2021. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 18, in the chapel at Belk Funeral Home with burial following at Darlington Memory Gardens. The family received friends Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Born on Oct. 18, 1942, Fudgie was the son of the late Son Blackmon and Mary Alice Kelley Blackmon. He was an outstanding football player for St. John’s High School Blue Devils, where he played in the Shrine Bowl. He worked for Sonoco Products Co., retiring after 32 years. Fudgie would be seen at Darlington City Hall on Election Day, eager to help voters at the polls and placing their “I Voted” sticker on them. He was a member of Piney Planes Free Will Baptist Church. Surviving are his sons, Sidney (Sonya) Blackmon and John “Rusty” (Shannon Delgado) Blackmon, all of Darlington; granddaughter, Nacole (Carlston) Blackmon; and his brother, Harry (Jean) Blackmon.
