Weekend crash proves fatal

A fatal collision occurred this weekend. According to SCHP Lance Cpl. Lena Butler, the crash occurred on Saturday, February 8th, at approximately 2 p.m. at the intersection of South Fourth Street and SC Highway 151, about three miles south of Hartsville.

Lance Cpl. Butler of the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that two vehicles were involved: a 2013 Chrysler 300 and a 2016 Kia Soul. The Chrysler, carrying three occupants, was traveling southbound, while the Kia, with two occupants, was heading northbound when they collided.

The driver of the Chrysler was not injured, but both passengers sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The driver and passenger in the Kia were also transported to the hospital.

Darlington County Coroner J. Todd Hardee has confirmed that 81-year-old Robert E. Raines succumbed to his injuries as a result of the collision.
